Freddie Wong discusses his role of Freddie the IT guy in PARKED, how it all came about and his philosophy around creating content for the web.
I met Freddie at #tiff2013 He was speaking on a panel and after the panel, I introduced myself. I informed him that I had been using him as a case- study over the past few years in my lectures. We sat on a couch and made small talk about Toronto vs. Vancouver, the weather and how as a teen Freddie would come to Vancouver from Seattle so he could drink legally. We shared a few laughs and parted ways. Upon my return to Vancouver, our writing team continued to break stories and I pitched the team regarding having Freddie as our IT guy in Tim’s episode. The team loved the idea, so I pitched him via twitter. Yup! Never mind the 2 minute elevator pitch- try 140 characters! My experience working with Freddie taught me to never be afraid to ask people to work with you. If you have a dream or a desire to work with someone, go for it. Ask them. The worst thing that could happen is that they could say, “no” which, is far better than missing out on the opportunity and the potential for them to say, “yes” simply because you let your fear or doubt drive you.- S.
